Student Spotlight: Chevy O'Dell

Chevy O’Dell is a fourth-year software engineering student at the University of Calgary. With her fathers side originally hailing from Big River First Nation on Treaty Six land, she has lived throughout southern Alberta and Treaty Seven land most of her life. From taking computer programming in high school, she knew that software design and development were topics she wanted to dive into in post secondary due to its expansive nature and focus on problem solving. Though there are many topics that interest her, her current focus is on the fields of big data and distributed computing. In addition to computer programming she also has a keen interest in fine arts, specifically topics involving film photography, painting, sculpture, and music. Her hope once she finishes her degree is to find a career that utilizes both her skills in software development and fine arts in order to merge and explore the two disciplines. When not working on schoolwork she can be found volunteering at the campus and community radio station, CJSW, where she cohosts a late 2-hour timeslot every Tuesday night in addition to volunteering around the station.
