Featuring Elder Sheldon's video storytelling, this hands-on workshop invites participants to explore the cultural, historical, and scientific significance of the tipi as both a traditional dwelling and a symbol of Indigenous knowledge. Through guided storytelling and tactile creation, learners build their own personalized mini tipis (or collaborate on larger classroom-scale tips) while engaging with teachings about land, design, and interconnection.
The experience supports multiple STEAM pathways, including engineering principles in structure and stability, mathematical reasoning in symmetry and measurement, and artistic expression through decoration and storytelling. Rooted in Two-Eyed Seeing, this workshop honors both Indigenous and Western ways of knowing, making it adaptable.
